Additional Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News Information

Think the media are biased? CONSERVATIVES HAVE BEEN crying foul for years, but now a veteran CBS reporter has come forward to expose how liberal bias pervades the mainstream media. Even if you've suspected your nightly news is slanted to the left, it's far worse than you think. Breaking ranks and naming names, Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist Bernard Goldberg reveals a corporate news culture in which the close-mindedness is breathtaking, journalistic integrity has been pawned to liberal opinion, and "entertainment" trumps hard news every time. In his three decades at CBS, Goldberg repeatedly voiced his concerns to network executives about the often one-sided nature of the news coverage. But no one listened to his complaints-or if they did listen, they did nothing about the problem. Finally, Goldberg had no choice but to blow the whistle on his own industry, to break the code of silence that pervades the news business. Bias is the result. As the author reveals, "liberal bias" doesn't mean simply being hard on Republicans and easy on Democrats. Real media bias is the result of how those in the media see the world-and their bias directly affects how we all see the world.

In Bias you'll learn:
-How on issues ranging from homelessness to AIDS, reporters have simply regurgitated the propaganda of pressure groups they favor, to the detriment of honest reporting
-The Peter Jennings test for classifying politicians-and how all the networks do it
-The network color bar-why so many "victims" on network news stories are blond-haired, blue-eyed, and middle class
-How one high-level CBS News executive told Goldberg that of course the networks tilt left-but in the next breath said he'd deny that statement if Goldberg ever went public
-One of the biggest stories of our time-and why you probably didn't hear about it on the evening news
-How political correctness in network newsrooms puts "sensitivity" ahead of facts
-The real Dan Rather-a man who regards criticism of liberal bias as treason. If you ever suspected the network news was shortchanging the truth, Goldberg will not only prove you right, he'll give you a glimpse of just how it's done, and how fairness, balance, and integrity have disappeared from network television.

What Customers Say About Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News:

Talking about someone screwing up Ameica. I guess if you are super far right you might be suckered into buying the prmise of this book but anyone moderate on up won't be fooled by what has been proven since its publication to be pure trash. Do your research on this book and you will find that its premise has been disproven by a number of sources and not just liberal. Goldberg may not be quite the fool Limbaugh or Beck play (neither of course believe the stuff they put on the airwaves) but he ceratinly has hurt America and hurt it badly. His othr book of the 100 People Screwing Up America has been implicated as a catalyst in the murder in the Holocaust Museum Murders. But knowing how the rating system works here those who can't think for themselves will give this review a no vote of helpfulness and others who have actually read it and then checked out his facts will know this review is accurate. So rate the review however you would like but at least make sure you have read the book first--because I'd bet you haven't.

This is just a man who was sick of seeing the slant and the hypocrisy that goes along with it. One thing to remember is that this book is not written by a right wing wacko.

That is not entirely true, but it is close. Mr.

While the title of this book may lead you to believe that this book is all about the inside of a newsroom. I found all of the passages well written and they grabbed my interest.

Goldberg not only shows us why bias is apparent in the network news room he also picks certain topics(homeless, AIDS, man bashing.). and does a little investigative reporting of his own.

This is written by a democrat who never voted for Reagan or either Bush. I recommend this to anyone who has even a passing interest in the news and how it is reported to the nation. Thanks

There are always 3 parts to a story and yet the media only portrays the Israeli side. I thought this book was excellent till the end. Having visited Palestine and seeing the conditions they live in has made me realize the medias blatant disregard for human life. The author is a hypocrite, he himself is very biased. An excellent website is news.bbc.co.uk. The death ratio of Palestinians to Israeli's is at least 10 to 1.

This is a much more accurate view. The end states how the Palestinians look better in the media than the Israelis and this could not be any further from the truth. Please read former US President's book entitled "Peace Not Apartheid". The media often portrays Israel as the poor helpless victims yet Israel doesn't allow for even water to enter Gaza let alone food or medical supplies. Israel is backed by F16s and and nuclear weapons. Or visit media websites that are not based in the US or backed by Israel.

I urge people to form their own opinions rather than to listen to others.

Even though most Americans know there is bias in the news media, this book confirms it. I purchased the book for myself, but had to fight off my husband for it at least a couple of times a week. It was an excellent read, quick & to the point. It's daunting when you try to think of a time when media bias would no longer be an issue, or worse yet trying to stop it from occurring at all. If you're looking for a quick, easy & insightful read this is it.

Mr Goldberg rattles the liberal cage. There is a liberal bias in the media as there is in big business and in academia as well.

This book was well written, funny, and I couldn't put it down. The author criticizes both the liberal bias and the sensationalism of the media, and he cites many examples to support his claims.

What can I say. But that being the case, I still liked this book a lot and recommend it because he is telling the truth.

The only criticism I have is that the author made too many nasty comments about Dan Rather. I don't think this type of commentary was necessary, and it calls into question his motive for writing the book.

The liberal mindset seems to be the default political position in the world today, and few ever dare question the core tenets of liberal dogma. Thank you Mr Goldberg.
